I love getting old photos of aircraft no one has seen in years-often in the form of old photo albums of aviation buffs who filled their pages with classic airplanes in lieu of family vacations, or sometimes, as the main subject matter of family vacations. I recently was given this great collection of photos from the wife of a former RCAF pilot who obviously also enjoyed shooting aircraft- a few of his photos are pictured below-mostly of Canadian Armed Forces aircraft including P-51 Mustang! All the photos were taken in 1951.
Lancaster, also presumably of Canadian Forces origin. Anyone who can identify it, let me know.
.Kim writes: " My father took them when he was in the RCAF. It was where he was stationed while in England. When there he met my mom and wined a dined her with nylons, chocolates and sugar which was scarce then . So mom with her five sisters were always thrilled to see him on the doorstep. She was the only one that married a Canadian and left her family behind at just barely turning 21. So you have a bit of a love story to go along with the pictures. It's basically a family album. I don't think anyone in my family has seen them since being the eldest I received all this stuff. I know though my dad was a car and plane fan. I'm trying to downsize and just came across them."
These aircraft below all appeared on the same flightline at an RCAF base somewhere out west in the 1940's.
